These still life shots were taken during my Photo Media and Art unit at QUT, inspired by the bold, colorful work of German food photographer Julia Stotz. I played with contrast by placing bright everyday objects against a dark, soft velvet background. The lighting and setup were designed to give the objects a dramatic, almost surreal feel. Compared to my earlier photos taken with a foil backdrop, this series really shows how contrast and texture can shift the whole mood of an image. It was also a great chance to explore composition and editing in a hands-on way, finding ways to make everyday items look striking and unexpected.
