The portrait series “Is this a mask?”, explores the theme of self-understanding. It questions the duality between “Who we truly are and who we present ourselves to be”. By experimenting with editorial effects such as motion blur I intend to distort the raw emotions of myself, emphasizing on the contrast of authenticity and fakeness. Due to the shift- ing focus points, the images evoke various emotional states such as anger, confusion, or even excitement. This reflects on the tricky balance between self-perception and external perception, reminding the viewer to question initial opinion and challenging them to look beyond curtains of a person.
